School Based Health Centers
Heywood operates two School Based Health Centers located in Athol & Winchendon. Our Nurse Practitioners offer comprehensive medical and behavioral health services and collaborate with the school nursing team.
Heywood's School Based Health Centers (SBHC) are a hybrid model that offer onsite and
virtual healthcare services to students grades K-12 at select school districts. We support a
whole-child approach to wellness by a care team that includes Nurse Practitioners, Behavioral Health Clinicians, and Community Health Workers.

ACES Health Center also offers same day sick appointments for any Athol-Royalston student that had stayed home or sent home due to illness.
Telemedicine
Heywood’s Telemedicine Program, in partnership with your school’s healthcare team, can assist with caring for your child while at school. Illnesses that you would normally visit an urgent care clinic for can be treated virtually through the telemedicine program. These may include:
- Earaches
- Asthma
- Sore Throat/Strep Throat
- Coughs & Colds
- Minor skin infections
A Nurse Practitioner will connect to the student using secure video telehealth equipment while in the school nurse's office. Prescriptions are electronically sent to your pharmacy for your convenience. - it's like urgent care, brought right to your child!
