Breastfeeding Support Services

Lactation Services, also known as Breastfeeding Support & Education at Heywood Hospital include In-Patient Lactation Services, Breastfeeding Mother's Support Group, Out-Patient Lactation Clinic, Breastfeeding Classes and a breast pump rental and purchase station.

Inpatient Lactation Services

As an in-patient mothers are seen by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or a Certified Lactation Counselor during their hospital stay to help them with any breastfeeding problems.

Outpatient Lactation Clinic

This is a very important service that Heywood Hospital offers and we are the only hospital in Central Massachusetts that offers out-patient lactation services. Mothers can come to the clinic, whether they delivered at our hospital or not and receive the help they need to become successful with their choice to breastfeed their infant after discharge from the hospital.

Breastfeeding Classes

Discover the techniques to ensure a successful and rewarding breastfeeding experience. Topics include health benefits of breastfeeding for you and your baby, positioning, how to know if your baby is getting enough milk, expression and storage of milk, and how to continue breastfeeding if you plan to return to work.

• Fee: $20 delivering at Heywood, $30 delivering elsewhere

Breast Pump Rental and Purchase Station

This is a convenient service where mothers may be able to purchase or rent quality breast pumps. Some insurance companies cover the cost.
