Manual Therapy/ IASTM

Massage is often used as a part of physical therapy treatment plan to help with soft tissue restriction/mobilization, reducing pain and inflammation, as well as to assist with improvement of range of motion.

One of the types of massage is instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. This type of soft tissue mobilization uses ergonomically designed instruments that help detect and treat connective tissue restrictions and is used to treat individuals with soft tissue abnormalities, chronic inflammation, excessive scar tissue, or degeneration.

IASTM is used over these restricted areas with the appropriate amount of pressure to introduce controlled microtrauma to the area. Controlled microtrauma initiates reabsorption of excessive scar tissue and facilitates healing as adhesions in the soft tissue are broken down, allowing restoration of the injured area.
