The Quabbin Retreat is hosting a Narcan (naloxone) training on Thursday, November 21 at 6:30pm at the Dana Day Treatment Center, 211 North Main Street, Petersham.

Narcan (naloxone) is a medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to prevent overdose by opioids such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone. Narcan blocks opioid receptor sites, reversing the toxic effects of the overdose, and is administered when a person is showing signs of opioid overdose. The medication can be given by intranasal spray, intramuscular (into the muscle), subcutaneous (under the skin), or intravenous injection. Narcan is available without a prescription at most major pharmacies.
