Heywood Appoints Interim President and CEO

David AndersenThe Board of Trustees of Heywood Hospital has announced the appointment of David Andersen as Interim President and CEO of the Hospital, according to statement released today by Daniel M. Asquino, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of the Hospital and President of Mount Wachusett Community College. Mr. Andersen is expected to begin working on January 3, but will not assume the President and CEO role until the departure of Daniel P. Moen, current President and CEO of Heywood, on January 13, 2011.

Mr. Moen has resigned his position to assume the position as President and CEO of Sisters of Providence Hospitals in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Dr. Asquino said that he was most pleased with the selection of Mr. Andersen and thanked the members of the CEO Interim Search Committee for their work and diligence. The Committee was chaired by Heywood Board member and past chair, Tina Sbrega and included Hospital Trustees Kenneth Pierce, James Garrison, John Skrzypczak, M.D., Daniel Ervin, M.D., James Faust, M.D. and Stephen Hemman.

Chairman Asquino noted that Mr. Andersen will continue in the capacity of Interim President and CEO until a permanent President and CEO is selected, a process which has now begun and is likely to take several months.

Mr. Andersen has previously served as a healthcare consultant for Cape Cod Community Hospital and prior to that as President and CEO of The Saratoga Hospital in New York for 15 years and CEO of Holland Community Hospital in Holland, Michigan for 9 years. He has a BA degree in History from Eastern Nazarene College in Wollaston, MA, an MA degree in Healthcare Management from George Washington University in Washington, DC and an MBA degree from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

Dr. Asquino noted that the trustees were confident in the selection of Mr. Andersen as Interim President and CEO and said that under his leadership Heywood will continue the outstanding and quality patient care that is its hallmark.

Mr. Andersen commented on the excellent impression he had of the physicians, staff and facility of the Hospital during his interview and said that he was looking forward to his work at Heywood and in the community.
