To address the critical need for substance abuse services in the North Central and North Quabbin regions, Heywood Healthcare is in the process of converting the 82- acre property, formerly occupied by the Sisters of Assumption, in Petersham, MA, into a comprehensive center for treating patients with substance use disorders.

This innovative solution will transform the property into an 85 - bed facility that will provide outpatient, residential and inpatient services for adults and adolescents struggling with behavioral health and substance abuse problems.

"We are honored by the support we have received for the Quabbin Retreat project from local businesses, residents and our partners in the legislature," stated Dawn Casavant, Heywood Healthcare's Vice President for External Affairs and Chief Philanthropy Officer. "Addiction is one of the most pervasive health issues facing our region. The remarkable level of support we received from Rollstone Bank is more than a gesture, but a true testament to their passion and commitment to improve the health of our region. Working together, we will provide a critically needed pathway to a continuum of behavioral health care, as well as new local employment opportunities."

"Substance abuse has become an epidemic in our region, and the Quabbin Retreat is an important resource for treatment," said Martin F. Connors, Jr., President & CEO of Rollstone Bank & Trust. "There are no facilities like this in the area; Rollstone Bank is proud to partner with Heywood Healthcare in this imperative initiative."

The 'Fulfilling Our Promise' Capital Campaign is a community-responsive, multi-pronged fundraising initiative, designed to ensure that our communities' healthcare needs will be met now and in the future. This campaign focuses on three major capital projects, the construction of a new Emergency Department and outpatient Medical Office Building at Athol Hospital; the expansion and modernization of the Heywood Hospital Surgical Pavilion and the development of a new Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment Facility, the Quabbin Retreat.
