Athol Hospital Begins Construction on New Emergency Department and Medical Office Building

November 17, 2017

Construction map for Emergency Department/Medical Office building project 2017

Athol Hospital and Heywood Healthcare are pleased to announce that construction has begun on the new Emergency Department/Medical Office Building Project.

The construction will entail many changes to Athol Hospital's campus, and we will be providing periodic updates to the community as this project moves forward.

To accommodate the construction, there will be traffic and parking changes. Those affecting our patients and visitors are highlighted below:

- Patient/Visitor Parking for the Emergency Department and MOB will be relocated to the left side of the current MOB. Patients and visitors may enter via Mechanic Street. New parking lines in that area will indicate the new parking spaces. In the case of lot overflow, patients and visitors will be directed to park in the hospital's upper lots and may enter the Hospital through the Main Entrance and then take the elevator to the Emergency Department.

- Additionally, there will be significant changes to the front entrance to the current MOB, as the new building will be constructed quite close to the existing building. To accommodate this, the road in front of the MOB will be moved closer to the existing building.

While throughout this project, there will be an overall reduction in the number of parking spaces on campus, the remaining spaces will accommodate the Hospital's daily volume.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding construction, please contact Heywood Healthcare's Community Relations Department at (978) 630-6248.
