About Us

Heywood Healthcare is a community-owned health system serving north central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. It includes Heywood Hospital, a 134-bed acute care hospital in Gardner, MA; Athol Hospital, a 25-bed Critical Access hospital in Athol, MA; and Heywood Medical Group, along with multiple regional satellite facilities.

Heywood Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services including emergency care, surgery, orthopedics, maternity, behavioral health, oncology, intensive care, and advanced imaging, supported by a large team of physicians and staff. Athol Hospital offers community-based acute care with 24-hour emergency services, diagnostic imaging, surgery, rehabilitation, and post-acute “Swing Bed” care.

Heywood Medical Group is a non-profit Physician Organization affiliated with Heywood Hospital with over 75 physicians specializing in Primary Care and Specialty Care. Our primary care physicians focus on Pediatrics and Family Practice. Our specialty care physicians focus on the areas of addiction medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, obstetrics & gynecology, occupational health, orthopedics, pediatrics, pulmonology/sleep medicine, rheumatology, surgery, pain/spine, and urology.

Heywood Medical Group serves individuals and families in need of health care and works in coordination with Heywood and Athol Hospital to provide high quality comprehensive care to everyone. We accept most forms of insurance.
