Heywood Hospital Receives Unanimous DPH Approval to proceed with New Surgical Pavilion

November 10, 2021

Gardner, MA, November 10, 2021 – Heywood Hospital received approval from the Public Health Council to proceed with the construction of a new surgical pavilion. The new surgical pavilion will replace the existing operating room suite designed and constructed in 1960. The pavilion will include 6 operating rooms, is right-sized to support new ceiling-mounted technologies, will improve throughput, and provide an exceptional patient experience.

Vice President of Ambulatory & Perioperative Services, Rozanna Penney CRNA who leads the project stated, “the surgical pavilion will be located on the South side of the campus, contiguous to central sterile, MRI, xray, patient registration and food services. The existing OR suite will be repurposed with primary use expected to be endoscopy and pain management.”

This project represents one of the largest capital investments in Heywood’s history. Accessible high quality surgical care is paramount to meet the needs of our residents. The ability to access surgical services locally often alleviates several barriers for patients and families, and was the premise to which Henry and Martha Heywood deeded Heywood Hospital in 1907.

The Hospital expects to break ground early in the new year. For more information, please contact Dawn Casavant, VP of External Affairs for Heywood Healthcare.
