Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Helen E. Heneghan advocates for a team-oriented and patient-centric approach to healthcare in her role as Chief Medical Officer for Heywood Healthcare. Dr. Heneghan oversees the Hospitalist and Emergency Medicine teams for Heywood Hospital and Athol Hospital, as well as Psychiatric Services, Maternity and Pediatrics for Heywood Healthcare. She is responsible for staffing, operations and improving patient flow for both hospitals and with two decades of clinical experience ranging from Emergency and Hospital Medicine to Primary Care, strives to create a positive patient experience through the efficient use of medical staff and operational effectiveness.
Prior to joining Heywood Healthcare in 2014, Dr. Heneghan worked as a hospitalist, family physician and Medical Mission Team Member at Dartmouth Hitchcock in NH. She is past Medical Director for New Hampshire’s Cheshire County House of Corrections and Medical Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration. She was also a clinical Assistant Professor at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, NH.
Dr. Heneghan received a Bachelor of Science from Acadia University in Nova Scotia. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Education and complete her Medical Degree at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is certified by the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Heneghan also serves as Project Investigator for the Central Mass Advanced Nursing Education Academic Practice Partnership Grant.
