Heywood Hospital's 26th Anniversary Golf Classic, held on June 18thth at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, raised over $115,000 to support Heywood Hospital’s most significant construction project since the Watkins Building, the full-scale design of a new Surgical Pavilion, to replace the current operating rooms, designed and built in the 1960s.
Heywood Hospital’s modernized Surgical Pavilion will create access to leading-class surgical care by offering a highly efficient and expanded operating platform to increase access to high quality surgical services. Additionally, the expansion of surgical care will drive business development and employment opportunities in the region, ensuring the strength and viability of Heywood Healthcare as an independent, community-governed provider.
Heywood’s premier Surgical Pavilion will include six Operating Rooms, two Minor Procedure Rooms, four Endoscopy Rooms, a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), a Patient Preparation/Recovery Area and staff support space.
Scramble ladies team prize was taken by Grace Corkery, Sheila Donnelly, Kathleen O’Leary-Prescott and Tina Santos, scoring 69. Ken Arsenault, Jim Gallant, Kevin Horrigan and Kevin Mack took the men’s prize with a score of 59. Mixed group prize went to Sean McCauley, John Flick, Kelly Hoisington and Bryce Santos with a score of 66.
Best ball men went to Michael Azzoni, Peter Massicott, Frank Yavorosky and Frank Yavorosky, Jr. scoring 52. Best ball mixed foursome scored a 53, turned in by the group of David Huhtala, Paul Huhtala, Margaret Huhtala and Brian Fontaine.
Closest to the pin awards were picked off by Kathleen O’Leary-Prescott and Paul Huhtala at the fifth hole, Elexa Bonogofsky and Frank Yavorsky, Jr. at the 13th hole, and Sheila Donnelly and Bob Crosby at the 17th hole.
Over the years, Heywood’s annual Golf Classic has underwritten a wide variety of Heywood initiatives and services, including oncology, surgical day care, endoscopy, the Diabetes Center of Excellence, various capital projects and an array of behavioral health and suicide prevention initiatives.
