Dr. Kalava Spearheads Heywood Hospital's Spine and Pain Care Center

Gardner, MA – Heywood Hospital has named Kal Kalava, MD, head of the Spine and Pain Care Center in the Hospital’s new Center for Specialty Care. Dr. Kalava is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and brings an extensive background in pain management to Heywood
and the Greater Gardner community. Dr. Kalava received his medical education at Osmania Medical College in India and has studied at major healthcare centers throughout the country, completing his residency at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and fellowship training in interventional pain management at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana.
“High quality pain management is a much needed service in our region,” stated Heywood Hospital president and CEO Win Brown. “We are extremely excited to have Dr. Kalava join our team and add this niche service. Dr. Kalava’s experience in pain management will pair wonderfully with the array of treatments we already offer, included our Diabetes Center of Excellence and care offered by our oncology staff. With the addition of each service, we are able to bring the most advanced and complete care to our community.”
In conjunction with general pain management, Dr. Kalava’s practice will offer spine and joint injections, spinal cord stimulation, nerve blocks, epidural and facet injections and MILD procedures, a technique used to treat lumbar spinal stenosis.
The Spine and Pain Care Center at Heywood Hospital is now open and Dr. Kalava is accepting new patients. The office can be reached at 978-630-5045 and is located on the Hospital’s main campus.
