Nation's Top Doctors at Heywood Hospital

 Heywood Hospital Physician’s Named Top Doctors by US News and World Report

 Four of Heywood Hospital’s very own have been selected as “Top Doctors” by U.S. News & World Report for being among the best and most highly recommended physicians in their fields. Recently, U.S. News published an unranked list of top physicians in the nation in their online directory which organizes over 31,000 doctors by hospital, specialty, and location. The list is meant to give recognition to outstanding professionals in the medical field and provide an easy way for prospective patients to find and research distinguished doctors. 

Luckily for Gardner residents, some of the best healthcare professionals in the nation can be found in their hometown. Two orthopedic surgeons, a general surgeon, and a cardiologist from Heywood Hospital were all ranked among the nation’s best doctors in their fields. Georgetown graduates Michael Azzoni, MD, and Peter Brassard, MD, were both recognized as orthopedic surgeons in the “Top Doctors” directory. A 23-year veteran of Heywood Hospital, George Krasowski, MD, was recognized as an outstanding surgeon and Robert Terlato, MD was also recognized for his 17 years of work as a cardiologist. 

“We are lucky to have such an exceptional medical staff,” said President and CEO of Heywood Hospital, Win Brown. “All of our physicians are dedicated to providing the highest quality care to our patients. To have the efforts of these remarkable physicians recognized nationally, among the most skilled doctors in the country, is a tribute to their expertise and the level of care which is provided at Heywood.”

To determine top doctors, nominations submitted by co-workers and employers were reviewed and selected by a team of physicians from the New York-based company, Castle Connolly. After two decades researching medical professionals nationwide, the company has recognized nearly every exceptional healthcare professional in the nation. Of the 800,000 doctors in the nation, just over 31,000 were recognized by Castle Connolly and U.S. News. Four Heywood doctors were selected to be in this prestigious list, putting them among the top 4% of doctors in their fields in the nation.   

Of course, Azzoni, Brassard, Krasowski, and Terlato could not provide such excellent patient care without the help and support of their coworkers. To be nominated as a Top Doctor, employers and co-workers submitted online nomination forms for doctors whose work they wished to recognize. Castle Connolly then reviewed these nominations and assessed how frequently doctors refer their patients to the nominated specialists. Through this system of peer nomination, working health care professionals used their input to determine doctors worthy of recognition.
