Heywood Hosts Event to Honor Physicians

February 18, 2011

James A. Faust Pillar award recipient Dr. John Mulqueen, his wife Paula, honoree Dr. Owen Christensen for his 50 years of service to Heywood Hospital and his wife Carol.

Heywood Hospital held the 5th Annual Honoring Our Physicians event on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in the Hospital Dining Room. During the event, new physicians were welcomed, and those who celebrated 5-year and up anniversaries were recognized. The highlight of the evening was a special presentation in honor of Dr. Owen Christensen for 50 years of service to the Heywood Medical Staff and the announcement of this year's James A. Faust Pillar Award recipient as John Mulqueen, MD. Former Hospital President and CEO Dan Moen returned to make the presentations and shared the microphone during Dr. Christensen's presentation with retired pediatrician Donald Miller, MD and current chief of medicine Robert Terlato, MD. Both told stories and shared insights into Chris' extraordinary legacy at Heywood, while a slide show of personal and work photos was playing. He was presented with an inscribed anniversary clock, a travel gift certificate and a Sonoma gift certificate. He was joined at the event by his wife Carol and children, Amy, Andrew and Matthew.

A visibly moved John Mulqueen, MD accepted the James A. Faust MD Pillar Award for Physician Excellence from Dr. Faust, noting that it was like receiving the Cy Young Award from Cy Young himself. Mulqueen's work with wife, Paula, to establish a medical clinic in Haiti, was highlighted. A new plaque containing the names of all five recipients of the Pillar Award was unveiled and will be placed in the lower lobby of the Watkins Center.
