Maternity Services Include:
Tele-NICU, 24-hour Anesthesia Services, Doula Program, Interpreter Services, Labor Support, Lactation Services and VBAC (vaginal delivery after a previous cesarean section).

C-Section Rate
Here at Heywood Hospital, our obstetrical care providers are committed to minimizing interventions used during the birthing process without increasing the risk of adverse outcomes. As a result, Heywood Hospital has one the lowest cesarean section rates in the state.

Tele-NICU
The Tele-NICU is a high-tech audio-visual cart which allows the obstetrical staff to emergently contact a Neonatologist at Umass Memorial any time of the day or night. It allows the Umass Neonatologists to interact with the providers at Heywood Hospital in real time. With this technology, the Neonatologist is able to view and assess the infant which helps guide the actions of the pediatricians caring for the infant. This allows for the best care to be provided to the youngest and most vulnerable patients.

Birthing-Friendly Hospital
As a "Birthing-Friendly" hospital, Heywood provides high-quality maternity care. Heywood Hospital participates in a perinatal quality improvement collaborative program and implements evidence-based quality interventions to improve maternal health.

VBAC

• VBAC is a vaginal delivery after a previous pregnancy was delivered by cesarean section.
• Some benefits of a VBAC include: shorter recovery, lower risk of infection, less blood loss, and avoidance of problems associated with multiple cesarean deliveries.
