Project Safe Kids

The Project Safe Kids Annual Bike and Rollerblade Rally is sponsored each year by Heywood Hospital, the Gardner Police Department and The Gardner Fire Department.

The Bike and Rollerblade Rally Event includes free bike helmets for children ages 5-12, assistance in fitting the bike helmets properly, bike riding skills events, free bike safety inspection, free bike registration, and safety information.

Children who completed all the rally events receive free certificates, decals and a gift. All participants in the rally are eligible for a grand prize drawing for bicycles and other various prizes.

The purpose of the event is to get helmets on as as many children's heads as possible, and to teach safe riding and inline skating skills. The Project Safe Kids Committee has designed the Rally to be a fun way to teach kids about the importance of wearing a helmet each and every time they ride their bikes or use their rollerblades. Our goal is to remove the barrier of cost, so that every child who needs a helmet can get one. The Gardner Police Department will provide "Caught In The Act" Friendly's Ice Cream or Papa Gino's Pizza certificates to children who they "catch" wearing a bike helmet while biking or skating.
