Lacation Services, also known as Breastfeeding Support & Education at Heywood Hospital include In-Patient Lacation Services, Breastfeding Mother's Support Group, Out-Patient Lactation Clinic, Breastfeeding Classes and a breast pump rental and purchase station.
In-Patient Lactation Services
As an in-patient mothers are seen by an Internaltional Board Certified Lacation Consultant during their hospital stay to help them with any breastfeeding problems.
Breastfeeding Mother's Support Group
This is a relaxed forum where mother's can meet together and share experiences. A lacatation consultant is present for questions and advice. Meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month, from 10am to 11am and is located in the Heywood Hospital Medical Arts Building Conference Room.
Out-Patient Lactation Clinic
This is a very important service that Heywood Hospital offers and we are the only hospital in Central Massachusetts that offers out-patient lactation services. Mothers can come to the clinic, whether they delivered at our hospital or not and recieve the help they need to become successful with their choice to breastfeed thier infant after discharge from the hospital.
Breastfeeding Classes
This class will provide you with the information and techniques to ensure a successful and rewarding breastfeeding experience. Topics include health benefits of breastfeeding for you and your baby, positioning, how to know if your baby is getting enough milk, expression and storage of milk, and how to continue breastfeeding if you plan to return to work.
One evening, 6:00pm – 8:30 pm. Second Monday of every other month (Jan., March, May, July, Sept., Nov.)
Fee: $20 delivering at Heywood, $30 delivering elsewhere
Breast Pump Rental and Purchase Station
This is a convenient service where mothers may be able to purchase or rent quality breast pumps. Some insurance companies cover the cost.
